B&M has opened the doors to its fourth store in Medway.

Customers were welcomed into the new Gillingham High Street branch for the first time on Saturday (16 November).

The discount retailer has taken over the former Wilko unit, which closed last September after it went into administration.

The 11,000 sq ft retail space has undergone an extensive refurbishment throughout in time for the grand opening.

Inside the store customers can find a range of food and drink, health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, toys, games and gifts.

A total of 45 jobs for local people have also been created.

Commenting on the opening, the store manager said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.”

The new Gillingham branch joins the retailer’s existing stores in Chatham, Strood and Rainham Shopping Centre.

B&M, which was founded in 1978, has more than 740 stores across the UK.

It acquired 51 of Wilko’s branches in a deal worth £13 million last year.
