Plans to build up to 360 homes on a greenfield site in Strood have taken a step forward.

The 16-hectare site off Gravesend Road and Rede Court Road is also earmarked for new road infrastructure and green open spaces.

Developer Barratt David Wilson Homes has now requested a scoping opinion from Medway Council – a document outlining what information needs to be provided for an environmental impact assessment (EIA).

Noise and air pollution, transport, the visual impact on the landscape, as well as the effect on biodiversity and ecology are all elements to be considered in the eventual EIA.

The developer says it would then submit a planning application, and if approved, it expects construction work to begin in June 2029, taking around eight years to complete.

The site, named Chapter Views, forms part of a wider area jointly allocated by Medway Council and Gravesham Borough Council for development into 3,190 new homes, alongside two primary schools, a secondary school, and local community facilities.

Medway Council’s response to the scoping opinion request is expected by 14 September 2026.
