Plans to redevelop a notorious fly-tipping hotspot in Chatham have been given the green light.

A site near Samuels Towers in Longhill Avenue will become 16 houses with 22 car parking spaces, of which 6 spaces will be for visitors.

For several years the site has faced problems with large amounts of fly-tipping as well as anti-social behaviour, as KentOnline reported.

The proposed modular homes would be delivered as a mix of semi-detached and terraced three-bedroom properties.

They will measure two storeys in height and will each include a private garden, either to the rear or side of the property.

Part of the site will also be retained as 24 car parking spaces for existing residents living in Samuels Towers.

The plans were first submitted by Trellick Ltd in 2022 and had initially proposed 24 homes, but this number was reduced down to 16 homes after Medway Council raised concerns over the design and impact on rare calcareous grassland.

Councillors unanimously approved the revised scheme at a Planning Committee meeting last Wednesday (26 August).

The developer will be required to pay over £185,000 towards infrastructure improvements, known as Section 106 contributions, including £101,664.68 for local schools and £58,213.60 for nearby green spaces.
