Strood’s former Wilko is set to become a Poundstretcher store.

The unit has been empty since last September after the national homeware chain went into administration.

However, Poundstretcher has not yet revealed an opening date.

The 14,529 sq ft store will have a wide range of food, garden supplies, storage solutions, kitchenware, bedding and furniture.

A number of vacancies are currently being advertised, including positions for a store manager, key holder and sales assistants.

It will be Poundstretcher’s second branch in Medway, adding to its store in nearby Gillingham.

Most former Wilko stores in Medway have already received a new lease of life.

B&M took over the Rainham Shopping Centre branch and is shortly opening in Gillingham High Street, while part of the Chatham store is becoming a £15m healthy living centre.

Strood’s store was put on the market earlier this year, but the estate agent Cradick Retail declined to confirm the new tenant.

Poundstretcher was approached for a comment but did not respond.

Founded in 1981, Poundstretcher has more than 350 stores across the UK, including its Pet Hut concept which is a discount pet shop.
