Plans for 24 flats, shops and offices on Luton High Street, Chatham, submitted
Shops on Luton High Street in Chatham could make way for a new development.
Plans have been submitted for 24 flats, three shops and three offices.
The block would be built on the site of 43-47 Luton High Street, currently the Medway Food Centre, Roofcare Roofing Supplies and Golden Dishes restaurant.
The building is set to be four storeys in height and designed with brickwork rendered in a cream colour.
A mix of 13 one-bedroom and 11 two-bedroom flats would be created on the upper floors.
Although earlier versions of the plans included balconies, no private amenity space for the flats is now proposed.
The development will also not provide any car parking spaces, while 32 cycle parking spaces will be created.
A decision on the planning application is due by 5 July.
Residents are able to submit a representation in favour or against the plans online.
View the plans on Medway Council’s Planning Portal here or by searching MC/24/0251.

How do residents submit a representation? The proposed structure is far too big and will dominate over the remaining buildings. No parking spaces provided either, where are all the residents going to park in an already densley populated area where parking is very limited.

Hopefully people will take the time to contact because this is a ridiculous proposal. There is already not enough parking for the area, Let alone the strain on the GP’s.
Absolute monstrous unappealing buildings, who in their right mind thought this would look ok. Luton Villiage or (hen and Chicks as it is referred too) is a small area . When are you ever going to get it right, you have consistently ruined Chatham high street and the surrounding water front with hugely intrusive buildings that enclose the entire area and lost any kind of history Chatham is known for, let’s at least get this right for this area with the right type of building that actually encompasses its surroundings. And as for no parking for residents please explain where 35 plus cars are going to park is an already small and extremely busy area. Why can’t any councils get things right in medway, it’s like it is being run by people determined to ruin areas regardless just for their own agendas, and I bet the people in charge are not affected by any of this because if they were they would think twice. Just mind blowing how they are destroying a once lovely villiage/town.
