Pepe's Piri Piri reveals plans for first Medway branch with new opening in Strood High Street

A fast-food chain has revealed plans to open its first restaurant in Medway.

Medway Council has received a planning application to convert 5 High Street in Strood into a Pepe’s Piri Piri restaurant.

The empty shop – located next to an existing Morley’s Fried Chicken branch – would be refurbished to create a large open-plan dining area, plus kitchen facilities and storage.

The franchise was previously earmarked to open in Strood’s former Greggs in 2022, but those plans never materialised.

Pepe’s Piri Piri describes itself as the “home of fresh flame-grilled chicken”, serving chicken including in wraps, burritos, in toasted pitta, along with wings.

It was founded in 2004 and has over 180 branches across the UK, with the nearest locations currently in Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells and Ashford.

An opening date for the Strood restaurant has not yet been confirmed.
