Plans to build padel tennis courts in the centre of Chatham have been revealed.

Medway Council has received a planning application to turn a private car park, next to St John’s Church in Railway Street, into four padel tennis courts.

The site was previously home to New Cut Industrial Centre until it was demolished in 2020.

If approved, the padel tennis courts will be open from 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday and on Sunday, and 7am to 10am on Saturday.

A co-working hub in Railway Street, called Platform 26, would oversee the leisure facility, such as the equipment hire.

Players will also have access to a small café, toilets and changing rooms inside Platform 26.

In 2019 plans for a seven-storey block featuring 35 flats on the same site were given the go-ahead, but it was never built and the approval has since expired.

Medway Council is due to make a decision on the latest proposals by 10 March.
