Lloyds Bank has announced the closure of its branch in Chatham High Street later this year.

The branch at 142-146 High Street will shut for the final time on Monday, 5 October.

The closure forms part of the latest wave of 31 Lloyds Bank and 48 Halifax branch closures confirmed by the Lloyds Banking Group – which owns Lloyds, Halifax and the Bank of Scotland – as it continues to reduce its presence on UK high streets.

A survey carried out by Lloyds found the Chatham branch was used by 1,212 customers monthly to February this year, with 81% also carrying out transactions at its other branches, online or by telephone.

The bank has confirmed that customers can use the Halifax branch at 139-141 High Street, across the street, as they would use Lloyds.

A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group said: “With access to one of the biggest branch networks in the UK, alongside local banking options like our Community Bankers, the Post Office, PayPoint, plus our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service, we offer our customers more choice and convenience than ever before.”

The latest closures come after Lloyds Banking Group already announced it would shut 95 branches in February, and bosses are considering axing Halifax as a standalone brand, the Guardian reports.
