Homebase has shut its Chatham branch after a long-running closing down sale.

The garden and DIY store in Horsted Retail Park closed its doors for the final time on Saturday (22 February).

In November the retail chain fell into administration after it ran out of funding, blaming weak consuming spending and the cost-of-living crisis.

The Homebase brand and up to 71 stores were snapped up by The Range and Wilko owner CDS Superstores for £25.6 million.

A further five stores were acquired by rival retailer B&Q for £2.5 million in January — which did not include the Chatham location.

For the time being it is still unclear what the future holds for the Chatham branch.

All remaining stock and equipment have now been removed from the store, leaving it empty.

A Facebook post by a staff member, posted on Saturday, said: “We have now closed for the last time at Homebase.

“It’s been our pleasure to serve this community, and customers have become friends!

“We would like to thank you all for your kind words of support over the last few weeks.”
