Work to turn empty offices into flats in Chatham Maritime is underway.

Waterside Court, next to Dockside Outlet Centre, is set to become 60 flats.

The 1990s office block was last occupied by banking giant NatWest, who used it as a customer service centre.

Construction work has now started after a planning application for new windows and cladding was given the go-ahead by Medway Council today (Wednesday, 24 July).

Permission for conversion into residential use was previously granted in 2022.

The plans will see the three-storey building split up to create a mix of one and two-bedroom flats.

A total of 51 car parking spaces in the existing car park will serve future residents.

NatWest decided to relocate its offices to Pembroke Court, near the University of Greenwich campus, in 2022, which left the building empty.

It was then put on the market by estate agent Cushman & Wakefield, and sold on a long leasehold in May this year.
