Three national chains have pulled out of Chatham’s Pentagon Centre with another closure on the horizon.

Footwear brand Foot Locker shut its prominent store at the beginning of this week, marking a major loss for the shopping centre.

In recent weeks the Coffee Republic café and women’s fashion store Select also closed suddenly without notice.

With the three units now sitting empty, a spokesperson for Medway Council confirmed that terms are currently being agreed with new occupiers.

The latest closures comes just as British Heart Foundation announced its Home Store in the shopping centre will shut by the end of March 2027.

The store, which sells second hand furniture and home appliances, is one of 87 branches set to close nationwide as part of a major overhaul of the charity’s retail operations.

A total of 150 of the brand’s 640 locations will shut across a two-year period due to rising costs and changes in customer shopping habits.

Dr Charmaine Griffiths, chief executive of British Heart Foundation, said: “We know this will be a difficult time for our dedicated colleagues and volunteers in affected stores and emphasise our deep appreciation and gratitude for all they have done for BHF and the communities they serve.

“Like most retailers, we are facing an exceptionally challenging trading environment.

“We must take the difficult step to close some of our shops to sustain retail’s important contribution to funding BHF’s groundbreaking research.”

An exact closure date for the British Heart Foundation store is yet to be confirmed.

Future Medway previously reported that Warren James was earmarked for closure, but the jewellery brand has since renewed its lease.
