A Kent-based housing firm has completed 24 social homes in Chatham.

Three derelict garage blocks have been redeveloped by mhs homes to provide new flats for social rent.

An unveiling ceremony took place last month where the MP for Chatham and Aylesford, Tristan Osborne, cut the ribbon.

A mix of one and two-bed flats have replaced the garages, including five homes in Alfred Close, nine homes in Hampshire Close and ten homes in Somerset Close.

At the ceremony, the MP was also joined by the Mayor of Medway Marian Nestorov and mhs homes chair Nigel Hopkins, as well as new residents.

Speaking at the event, Tristan Osborne MP said: “It’s been such a heartwarming experience to be here today [22 August], meeting some of the families who have moved in and welcoming them to our community.

“We know there’s an urgent need for more social homes in the local area, and I’m looking forward to working with mhs homes towards our shared goal.

“When people have the security and stability of a decent, safe and genuinely affordable home, they can get to know their neighbours, put down roots and be part of the community they’re living in.”
