Work on a 115-home development by Medway Council’s housing firm has reached completion.

The scheme, known as Garrison Point, has created one and two-bedroom flats on a former car park in Whiffens Avenue in Chatham.

It’s the first major scheme delivered by the council-owned Medway Development Company (MDC), which was set up to build new homes on key regeneration sites.

Of the 115 homes, 72 have been sold on the open market, 34 are privately rented, and nine have been offered as shared ownership through landlord mhs homes.

More than 65% of the homes sold by MDC were bought by existing Medway residents, Future Medway understands.

Every flat has its own balcony, offering views of the River Medway and the Great Lines Heritage Park.

Residents also benefit from secure cycle storage and private communal gardens, while selected properties have a car parking space for an additional cost.

A Medway Development Company spokesperson said: “We are pleased to complete our Garrison Point scheme which has created 115 new homes for Chatham.

“The scheme has delivered a high proportion of affordable housing, with nine shared ownership homes and forty-nine homes through the new “First Homes” scheme, which has helped many first-time buyers to acquire their property with a 30% discount.”

Medway Council established MDC in 2017, with £120 million agreed by Cabinet and Full Council to fund the company’s property projects.

This includes 182 homes at Chatham Waterfront and 44 affordable rented homes at Truro Manor, behind Britton Farm, Gillingham, which are both due to be completed this year.

MDC is also set to turn Chatham’s Mountbatten House into 164 flats and recently got the go-ahead for 195 homes on the Civic Centre site in Strood.
