Co-op’s Delce Road store has shut for a major makeover.

The store in Rochester is set to reopen on Thursday, 5 December with a new look.

New refrigeration and chillers are being installed, and it will have an increased range of fresh and chilled products.

The shop floor is being increased in size and self-scan tills will be added to improve “ease and speed” for customers.

Alterations to the shopfront and back of shop areas are also being made.

A spokesperson for Co-op said: “The whole team is delighted to have an opportunity to invest in Rochester to enhance and improve the community’s Co-op store.

“Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life, and we will work to develop the range, choice and services to create a compelling offer to serve and support our community, conveniently.

“We are, however, very sorry for any inconvenience caused during the store’s temporary closure, and look forward to welcoming our members and customers back into their new-look Co-op when we conclude the programme of works and improvements and re-launch the store.”

The nearest alternative stores are in Marley Way, Rochester Riverside and Pattens Lane.

The Delce Road branch was built in 1900 to the designs of the prolific Medway architect George Edward Bond.
