Accessories and jewellery retailer Claire’s is set to close its Chatham store.

The British operations of Claire’s collapsed into administration in January, putting 154 stores and more than 1,000 jobs at risk across the UK and Ireland.

Its owner Modella Capital, which also owns Hobbycraft and TGJones, rescued Claire’s from administration last year, but has now started insolvency proceedings after conceding the chain has no “realistic possibility of trading profitably again”.

Industry insiders are doubtful that a buyer will be found for many of the branches, Sky News reported.

A closing-down sale is now underway at the store in the Dockside Outlet Centre, with prices being marked down by at least 50%.

It will continue to trade until further notice, while an exact closing date is yet to be confirmed.

Claire’s previously shut its stores in Chatham’s Pentagon Centre in 2022 and Hempstead Valley in 2024, and nearby branches in Maidstone have already closed this year.

Claire’s did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
