Medway’s largest rock climbing centre is now open.

Chimera Climbing has launched a new ‘state-of-the-art’ bouldering centre at The Quays, near Dockside Outlet Centre.

An opening event was held on 24 May where climbers of different ages and abilities were welcomed for the first time.

The climbing centre replaces Flip Out trampoline park, which closed suddenly in February.

It offers around 1,000 sqm of climbing surface, including angled walls, a Kilter board and an outdoor boulder facility, plus a café serving artisan sourdough pizza.

Compared to traditional centres, it has lower walls and safety matting instead of ropes and harnesses.

The centre caters for adults and children aged over five, with kid’s lessons and birthday parties also available to book.

The latest opening is Chimera Climbing’s third and largest branch in Kent, having already opened climbing walls in Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells.

Around 15 jobs have been created for the local area.

The centre’s opening hours are 10am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.

A spokesperson for Chimera Climbing said: “The opening of Chatham was a resounding success. The centre welcomed the Chimera community from Canterbury and Tunbridge Wells, as well as the wider Medway community.

“Chimera Chatham has introduced a state-of-the-art bouldering centre to the Greater Medway area, creating jobs for local residents, providing a space for recreation, and bringing access to an Olympic sport within reach of the community.

“With offerings like Kids Clubs, Adult Development, and Beginners’ courses, everyone is welcome at Chimera Chatham.”
