Taylor Wimpey is starting work on its 800-home East Hill development in Chatham.

The first phase, named Capstone Oaks, will deliver 91 houses on fields next to Capstone Farm Country Park.

It will see the creation of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, including 25% affordable housing.

The first phase also includes open spaces, a children’s play area and a new access road and roundabout off North Dane Way.

Plans for the first phase received the go-ahead from Medway Council’s planning committee in May.

As part of the planning permission, Taylor Wimpey will contribute £1.3 million to the council for local nursery, primary and secondary education, off-site cycleway improvements, and waste and recycling services.

The first homes at Capstone Oaks are expected to be released for sale around May 2025, these being a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties.

Once completed the whole East Hill development, spanning 49.47 hectares, will deliver up to 800 homes, a primary school, retail units, community facilities and a new link road between North Dane Way and Pear Tree Lane.

Future phases of the scheme will go back to the council for reserved matters planning applications.

Tim Betts, managing director at Taylor Wimpey South East, said: “We’re pleased to have received reserved matters planning approval for our Capstone Oaks development and would like to thank the community in and around Chatham for providing us with their feedback during the consultation process.

“With new facilities and open space on the doorstep, Capstone Oaks will be a fantastic place to call home, and we’re looking forward to starting work on site soon.”

Kent-based Royland Contractors Ltd will be completing the building work for Taylor Wimpey.

Letters have recently been delivered to local residents notifying them of the upcoming works.
