A former Chatham nightclub is set to be redeveloped into housing.

Medway Council has approved plans for 61 flats to be built on the site of Krystals Nightclub in New Road.

These would be a mix of one, two and three-bed flats across two buildings.

The plans also include a landscaped courtyard for residents and 37 car parking spaces.

However, no affordable housing will be created.

The developer, Provectus Developments, gained permission for 50 flats last March, but resubmitted the application with an extra 11 flats as the original scheme “would not be viable”.

The previous application saw a quarter of the flats classified as affordable homes, which are usually let or sold at least 20% below local market values.

Krystals Nightclub and Vanity Bar, previously Manor Club, closed in 2013 and was later demolished.

It is not known when construction work will begin.
